Exploring the World

The Academy invests in institutional relationships and supports programs that allow our students to learn through travel and exchange experiences. Value and affordability are factors we consider when choosing our partners and building our programs; we want these opportunities to be available to all Academy students.

Field trips to museums, farms, galleries, factories, and other sites relevant to a topic being studied in class are common. Each May all classes take a somewhat longer field trip to Gettysburg, Cape Cod, New York, Washington, or another destination.

Students of Spanish have an opportunity to participate in an annual spring exchange with a language school in Merida, Yucatan. Upper school students can arrange short-term, low-cost educational travel experiences through The Academy’s membership in the Network of Complementary Schools. Juniors and seniors can participate in the annual Harvard Model United Nations Conference.

Academy students can host an international student through our partnership with PAX or through more informal channels The Academy maintains with communities in Germany and Slovakia. Students from over twenty countries have studied at The Academy, and we welcome the perspectives our exchange students bring to our community.
